Hey, Baton Rouge String Players!
Come jam with your friends at the music event of the summer! Beginning to advanced string players up to age 18 are invited to the Baton Rouge Summer String Jam, a week-long chamber music, technique workshop, and creative strings program for all levels of student string players starting Monday, July 20, 2009 through Sunday July 26, 2009. Held at the School of Music at LSU, BRstringsJAM’09 is a local and financially accessible festival, an effort to connect with and help build the next generation of Baton Rouge musicians, and continue to help make thrive the music community in Baton Rouge.
CLASSICAL, JAZZ, LATIN, AND POPULAR MUSIC
The Summer String Jam is for all string players interested in improving their musical skills over the summer, learning traditional and creative styles of playing such as jazz and improvisation, Latin, and popular music, and learning ensemble and string skills from experienced faculty.
MUSIC WORKSHOPS WITH HIGHLY QUALIFIED FACULTY
Faculty members are international, professional musicians and graduate students from LSU’s School of Music andBaton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Students will spend three hours per day studying closely with faculty members, learning chamber pieces and playing in small and large ensembles. They will build upon existing skills through the technique workshop, with opportunities for coachings and masterclasses, a Summer Jam Performance, traditional and creative string playing. A fee of $125 covers the tuition for the week, workshops Monday through Saturday from 9am to 12pm. Registration and tuition are due by July 6, 2009.
In order to be placed into chamber groups, please be prepared to play a short audition of 2 scales and a short piece on Monday!
SUMMER JAM PERFORMANCE AND FREE DVD
Invite all your friends and family to the final concert! Every student will have the opportunity to perform on the final Summer Jam Performance with faculty on Sunday, July 26 at 4 pm in the School of Music, open to all friends and family. The concert will be recorded, and each student will receive a free DVD recording of the concert after the festival.
